Toddler care (2-4 years)

Peuteropvang

Our foundation provides emotional safety by ensuring a good atmosphere, e.g. by greeting by name, showing interest, offering help, teaching children to ask for help, humour, joking and having fun, caring for each other, listening to each other, giving lots of compliments, making eye contact. But also by being clear and consistent, explaining why we do or don't do things, being honest and offering structure. We create safe developmental situations by offering children a fixed morning programme with 2 developmentally appropriate activity blocks for 3- and 4-year-olds together. We also offer plenty of quiet moments and free play to explore on their own.

We encourage the development of personal competences by challenging toddlers to climb, slide, run, cycle or dance. Through trial and error, they discover their own physical talents and the possibilities of the environment. But also by reading or telling stories together, making things, drawing, crafting and already doing some language games in Dutch and English and maths games. The development-oriented activity blocks in the morning are supervised by a Dutch-speaking pedagogical staff member and an English-speaking teacher from school together.

Discovering new things

We encourage children by letting them try something new each time and giving them time to do so, giving compliments, joining in the game or offering new play materials. By actively watching what children show attention to and are engaged in, we offer activities that suit their development and interest. Our group rooms are set up with developmentally stimulating play materials in such a way that children are invited to various activities such as playing games, a circle activity, reading, singing, music or crafts. Much attention is paid to circle discussions to stimulate language development. We use gestures and pictures when necessary. And for games with numbers. In preparation for primary school.

BSO (4-13 years)

BSO / VSO

At the BSO, we take in children aged 4 to 13 years all day after school or during holidays. We believe it is important to give children the opportunity to relax after a long school day, tell their story or just let off steam.

Activities

Our site is designed to invite and challenge children to engage in various activities, such as playing games, doing crafts in the workshop, doing experiments with colour, smell and taste, baking and cooking in the kitchen, chilling out in the living room, reading in the library, building or designing in the corner of the building, playing in the costume corner. Or of course running, romping, having fun outside and taking part in sports activities.

Emotional safety

We offer emotional safety by creating a good atmosphere, e.g. by showing interest, humour, caring for each other, looking positive, listening and making eye contact. There is plenty of room for children's own opinions and wishes and we encourage children's involvement in solving problems. We also provide emotional safety by being clear and consistent, giving explanations, being honest and offering structure. By offering moments of rest, having fun together with the children and creating safe but sufficiently challenging activities, we stimulate children's well-being. For us, emotional safety also means offering children more and more freedom and independence, showing confidence in children and in the agreements we make. This increases children's self-confidence.

Development

We encourage the development of personal competences by supporting children to try out new things and giving them time, resources and space to do so, asking questions and showing interest. Our site is set up in such a way that children are invited and challenged to various activities such as playing games, doing crafts in the workshop, doing experiments with colour, smell and taste, baking and cooking in the kitchen, chilling in the living room, reading in the library, building or designing in the construction corner, playing in the costume corner. Or of course running, romping, having fun outside and taking part in sports activities.

We help the children fill in their leisure time, as valuable as possible, according to their personal needs.

Childcare (0-4 years)

Kinderopvang

Columbus Childcare is a high-quality nursery, located on the International School campus. The spacious outdoor playground has plenty of greenery and we are close to forests, fruit gardens and parks, allowing us to explore beyond the campus. Being on the campus of international school, we offer care to children from all over the world.

What all children, regardless of their background, have in common is that they want to discover the world around them with all their senses. By trying, feeling, smelling, tasting, climbing. Often by trial and error. Even after they have been at school for a long time, they will continue to push their boundaries: our pedagogical approach is all about 'learning by doing'. From baby onwards, we encourage and help them to challenge themselves.

Different cultures together

At our day-care centre, children come into contact with children from other cultures from an early age. Here, children of expats and of Dutch parents dance together to familiar Dutch children's songs. But also to songs that children bring from their home countries.

We believe that our approach is good for every child, but if you as a parent have plans to go abroad (as an expat, for example) then our childcare certainly adds value. Your child will play and learn with more confidence in the new country.

What language do we speak? Our main language is Dutch but since February 2018 we have been taking part in a 3-year pilot multilingual care. In each group where there are 2 leaders, one leader speaks Dutch to the children and the other speaks English. This way, we ensure that both expat children and Dutch children are introduced to universal English. Great for later/ any next place they go with their parents.
